The Isle in the Silver Sea by Tasha Suri

Tasha Suri doesn’t miss. Her tale about tales is beautifully written and poignant, and also timely. The Isle in the Silver Sea is a masterpiece of storytelling, immigration, assimilation, recarnation, and survival.

Vina is a knight (The Knight) destined to fall in love with the witch (The Witch), Simran, and kill her. Simran is destined to enthrall a community and die for it. The novel discusses how you live your life when you know what your destiny is and how it will end. How parents look at their children knowing what they will do. It is a beautifully written novel that I can’t wait to read again.

One aspect that really spoke to me is how homophobia wasn’t an issue. No one seemed to mind that the knight and witch were both women (or at least they weren’t upfront about it).

I’ll probably come back and write more, right now I’m more just absorbing it still.
